| Gina - the Office Manager |
Gina is an office manager in a large company. She's dedicated to being efficient and getting the tasks accomplished. After a 360 review in 2006, Gina learned that her colleagues were not happy with her performance. They described her as unpleasant, irritable and difficult to approach. Gina was floored. She had no idea people saw her that way. She certainly didn't see herself that way.
We had Gina complete a DISC behavioral assessment to help her understand her own communication style and how it was perceived by people of different types. Then we coached her through ways to adapt her behavior so that other people would see the Gina she wanted them to see -- a woman who cared about others, was conscientious, and was pleasant to be around.
Gina practiced her new skills diligently. After just a few weeks, here's what her boss had to say: "Denise, your work with our employee has been a life changing process for her. At times, a person's enthusiasm to always be correct, or their desire to ensure a job perfectly done can be carried to the point where others feel that the person is abrasive, overbearing or domineering. My employee had reached this point in her career. After working with you and your coaching process, I am thrilled to say the change has been remarkable to everyone in our company. She now strives to understand, acknowledge the needs and feelings of others and her productivity hasn't slowed, if anything she has been more productive. Thanks so much for your genuine interest in her success."
